A rant.

OK, I am going to say this really slow, so everyone can understand.

TIP

YOUR

DELIVERY

DRIVER.

Any questions? Easy enough, right? And yes, this is directed at a specific person. If you want something delivered because you don’t want to drive with the snow/cold/other crazy drivers, then you should probably COMPENSATE the person who actually drives in the snow/cold/other crazy drivers to bring your food to your doorstep! I’m not doing this out of the goodness of my heart, lady!

If you are ever unsatisfied with the service you received, it is legitimate to give a smaller, or in extreme cases, no tip. But you should then notify a manager and explain why you were unhappy.

There is no excuse for you to answer the door while talking on the phone and not holding back your large, hyper dog, then write $0 on the tip line of the receipt, hand it back, smile and close the door.

Good then. As an electrician, when I come to your house to do work because either you aren’t smart enough to do the work yourself, or afraid of electricity, you should tip me too. I guess the plumber should get a tip too. And the ambulance driver, since you can’t drive yourself to the hospital.

What about the Mailman, UPS Driver, FedEx driver and the paper boy/girl? The furniture delivery people and the guys that deliver appliances, do we tip everyone?

We don’t tip them! How are they different that a food delivery person.

Um, are you serious? The difference is that electricians make at the very least minimum wage, probably much more. Delivery people do not make anything near minimum wage because they WORK FOR TIPS. If you didn’t tip delivery people, the companies would have to pay them more, and you, in turn, would be paying much more for your food. I can’t believe you didn’t know that before, but now you do and you have no excuse for not tipping.

If we have to tip, then we are already paying more. You are already passing the cost onto me. If I buy food and have it delivered, it is for an already agreed to cost, no more and no less. I actually tip very well, but I do so because I want to, you attitude has really changed my attitude.

You should expect your employer to pay to more before you EXPECT me to do this.

It sounds like you should get a different job or accept the conditions of your employment, but not get mad at us.

See, if there was a higher demand for delievery drivers, then the wages would increase. It is way capitalism works!

Well, thanks for your responses. You’ve helped me understand how people justify not tipping. But it’s still wrong. I don’t care how you think things SHOULD be. I am telling you how things actually ARE. If you want to start paying an extra $5 up front to have your food delivered because you don’t want to tip, then that is something you should take up with your local delivery places. As of now, delivery drivers actually depend on tips to make their wage. I’m not sure why that is such a difficult concept for you to understand.

Another reason you should tip: some places have databases of their customers, and they make a note when you don’t tip. If it happens repeatedly, they will stop delivering to you.

I do tip, very well, I may add. But I tip because I choose too, not because I am expected to. If someone EXPECTS me to tip, then it should be disclosed at the time the order is placed.

The reality is that you did not receive gratuity. That is how things “ARE”. You believe you “SHOULD” have received a tip. You have it very, very backwards.

A person earns their money and they are allowed to choose how they spend those funds. This is the freedom we have in this country. Just like you have the freedom to not be a delivery driver.

It would be very illegal for any company to not only keep such a database regarding tipping, but to use it to discriminate against thier customers would get their doors closed very quickly.

“A person earns their money and they are allowed to choose how they spend those funds.”

Exactly. A person chooses to spend those funds on having food delivered to their door rather than going to pick it up themselves. A service is provided, and payment for that service is expected.

If you do not pay a person or a company for their service, that person or company has the right to not provide that service to you anymore, since they are losing money in the exchange.

It is extraordinary to me (and also completely false) that you think it would be illegal for a company to cease providing a service to a person who does not pay for it. I would like you to point me to that law if you can (which you cannot because it doesn’t exist).

It a neat document call the Bill of Rights.

They can stop delivering to ALL people, but they cannot choose to stop this “FREE” service to a select few because they do not contribute to your tip. This is called discrimination.

If they advertise “FREE DELIVERY” and disciminate against the people who don’t pay for this “FREE SERVICE”, than they would be guilty of discrimination. If they do not offer “FREE DELIVERY”, then there ins’t an issue and the people would have to pay for this service. Your restaraunt doesn’t charge for this service, or you wouldn’t be complaining.

Obviously no one is guaranteed “FREE DELIVERY” in the Bill of Rights, but everyone is guaranteed equal protection under the law by this same document.

I stand corrected, the Equal Protection Clause is a part of the 14th Amendment of the Constitutuion.
